Indonesia Design Week 2026 Expands Across PIK2 with “Collective Culture” as Its Driving Vision
Tangerang, Banten, 18 September 2026 – Indonesia Design Week (IDW) returns in 2026 with its most expansive edition yet. For the first time, IDW extends beyond Indonesia Design District (IDD) PIK2 to multiple destinations across the wider Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area, including Batavia PIK, Pantjoran PIK, Central Market PIK, By The Sea PIK, Land’s End PIK, and Orange Groves PIK2. Organized by Indonesia Design District (IDD) PIK2, this year’s event takes on the theme Collective Culture, highlighting design as a shared practice shaped by diverse perspectives, partnerships, and communities.
Through its expansion, IDW’26 brings together experiences spanning heritage, culture, sustainability, fashion, lifestyle, recreation, and community engagement, with each destination offering a different perspective on design and creativity.
Anchored by the principle, Crafted in Collaboration, Curated by Culture, and Built Through Diversity, the upcoming event brings together designers, architects, artists, institutions, businesses, students, and local communities to explore the different ways design intersects with culture, creativity, and everyday life.
As in previous years, Indonesia Design Week 2026 is organized into three major program pillars: Main Highlights, Experience Programs, and Community and Supporting Events. This year, IDW’26 is also joined by Bank Mandiri as the Official Banking Partner, supporting its commitment to connecting creative industries, communities, and public experiences through design.
One of this year’s key highlights is the SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection Exhibition, running from September 18 to October 18, marking the first time the renowned collection from Salone del Mobile.Milano will be exhibited in Indonesia. Featuring a curated selection of works by emerging international designers, the exhibition strengthens the cultural exchange between Italy and Indonesia while introducing Indonesian audiences to one of the world’s leading platforms for young design talent.
The exhibition is presented with the support of the Embassy of Italy, the Italian Cultural Institute Jakarta and the Italian Trade Agency, further strengthening the cultural and creative exchange between Italy and Indonesia. The collaboration also builds on the ongoing dialogue around Italian Design Day 2026, connecting the SaloneSatellite presentation with broader efforts to promote Italian design and creative excellence in Indonesia.
The exhibition also reflects Indonesia Design District’s growing international presence. Earlier this year, IDD PIK2 participated in Salone del Mobile.Milano through the IDD Pavilion, building on relationships established during Indonesia Design Week 2025. The pavilion showcased Indonesia’s contemporary design, craftsmanship, and material heritage on an international stage, through a collaboration with the renowned international leading figure in the global design industry, Marva Griffin Wilshire, who has been appointed for the second time as the Ambassador of Italian Design Day in the World to Indonesia, as well as the founder and the curator of SaloneSatellite. Will present also Maria Porro, the President of Salone del Mobile.Milano. The initiative opened opportunities for greater international exposure, cross-border collaboration, and recognition of Indonesian designers and locally made products.
Alongside the exhibition, the Main Highlights program features curated design exhibitions, immersive Design Experience Installations, Design Talks, and ICAD By The Bay. Through a collaboration with Indonesian Contemporary Art & Design (ICAD), selected design stores within IDD PIK2 are transformed into temporary art galleries, creating new intersections between contemporary art, commerce, and spatial design, with support from Emporium Marble and the Ministry of Creative Economy (EKRAF).
As part of ICAD By The Bay, EKRAF, ICAD, and IDW have also curated a selection of local intellectual properties (IPs) to be featured in the ICAD By The Bay Pop-Up Merchandise during IDW’26. The initiative highlights Indonesian creative IPs and gives local creators an opportunity to present their work within the wider IDW’26 program.
This year’s Experience Programs further celebrate Indonesian creativity through initiatives that blend craftsmanship, design, and public participation. Artisan Alley presents a curated marketplace featuring export-ready products, emerging craft brands, and exceptional makers from across the country, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and the Indonesia Design Development Center. IDW Design Spotlight, Sip and Tip Social Night, and the FIRM Office Grand Prix further bring together creative communities through exhibitions, workshops, brand experiences, networking, and design-driven activities.
Fashion and cultural expression also take center stage through the internationally acclaimed Jember Fashion Carnaval (JFC), presenting wearable art inspired by Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage through spectacular costumes, performances, and storytelling, in collaboration with JFC and Batavia Tales.
Beyond exhibitions and performances, IDW’26 continues its commitment to education and community engagement. The IDD Insight Trip invites students, professionals, and creative communities from leading universities in Indonesia and abroad to experience curated tours across exhibitions, installations, and showrooms throughout the district. The program is complemented by creative workshops, tenant-curated activities, and collaborative merchandise collections developed with Indonesian artisans and creative brands.
“This year, we wanted Indonesia Design Week to evolve beyond a single destination and become an experience that visitors can explore across the wider PIK Jakarta district. By expanding into multiple lifestyle and cultural destinations, we are creating new ways for people to discover how design shapes everyday life, public spaces, and communities,” said Adityo Ramadhan Dharmanto, Marketing Communication Deputy Department Head of Indonesia Design District PIK2.
Together, these district-wide activations reflect IDW’26’s commitment to make design more accessible and relevant to everyday life, extending beyond galleries and showrooms into public spaces and communities.
More than an annual design event, IDW’26 brings together international collaborations, local craftsmanship, thought leadership, and cross-disciplinary experiences to showcase the evolving role of design in Indonesia. Through this year’s programs, IDW’26 highlights how design can connect people, ideas, cultures, and communities, both locally and internationally.
